Actor Alec Baldwin on Parental Alienation Syndrome

On ABC’s news program 20 - 20, actor Alec Baldwin described his sense of Judges, Lawyers and professionals involved in Parental Alienation cases.

In a multi year child custody case costing millions and millions of dollars, Actor Alec Baldwin came to understand the process of Parental Alienation Syndrome first hand. On ABC’s news program 20 - 20 September 19th, 2008, Mr. Baldwin plainly explained that the judges and lawyers he came across in this difficult custody battle were:

“. . corrupt, inefficient, lazy, stupid. . .the most god awful. . . ” folks imaginable.

Describing the process in the Los Angeles County, California courts, Mr. Baldwin continued:

“The lawyer’s there to make money. It’s an industry, it’s a racket. The judges are like pit bosses in Vegas casinos. Their job is to make sure everybody stays at the table and keeps gambling.”

Applying common sense to his situation, Mr. Baldwin explains that he was isolated from his daughter for two years and then sent to “mediation” by the courtroom gang. . . . .

“I didn’t see my daughter for two years except for this silly arrangement and I’d done nothing . . . . ”

Discussing the judges and lawyers that cost him years with his daughter, millions in litigation costs, Mr. Baldwin explained that

“. . .bad decision making has infected the custody decision in this country. . . .”

We agree! Our chief litigator, Dr. Demosthenes Lorandos is a clinical psychologist with over forty years of experience with the courts. Dr. Lorandos functioned as a children’s rights expert witness in our courts for many years and became incensed at the almost complete lack of awareness of science by our judges and lawyers. Dr. Lorandos left his active practice of clinical and forensic psychology to attend law school in the mid 1980’s. He was convinced that the only way to educate judges and lawyers was to become one of them.

National research has clearly documented that when asked about psychology or psychiatry, judges and lawyers express confidence that they have a grasp of these scientific disciplines. The research also clearly points out that these same judges and lawyers simply don’t have a clue. [Kovera, M.B. and McAuliff, B.D. (2000). The Effects of Peer Review and Evidence Quality on Judge Evaluations of Psychological Science: Are Judges Effective Gatekeepers? 85 Journal of Applied Psychology 574; Gatowski, S. I.; Dobbin, S.A.; Richardson, J.T.; Ginsburg, G.P.; Merlino, M.L. & Dahir, V. (2001). Asking the Gatekeepers: A National Survey of Judges on Judging Expert Evidence in a Post –Daubert World. 24 Law and Human Behavior 433]

Because, according to Mr. Baldwin judges and lawyers in Parental Alienation Syndrome cases are “. . corrupt, inefficient, lazy, stupid. . .” AND BECAUSE, according to the nationally published research these same judges and lawyers simply don’t have a clue - - - it is imperative to YOUR CASE and YOUR CHILDREN to hire an attorney who knows this scientific literature. Your attorney must be conversant with the literature, be able to deal with local experts (debunking the junk science folks who say PAS doesn’t exist) and be a nationally recognized litigator to at least get the judges attention. Without this kind of captain, your ship is certain to get smashed on the rock of what Mr. Baldwin says is

“. . . an industry, it’s a racket. The judges are like pit bosses in Vegas casinos. Their job is to make sure everybody stays at the table and keeps gambling.”
